Kaloomah produces mainly well-bred young stock for finishers and feedlots from a herd of up to 500 breeders selected for their beef genetics, high fertility and milking ability. The herd is EU accredited with NLIS lifetime traceability. Calving is mainly conducted over a six week period in spring from 1st August making full use of bulls. Conception rates are consistently over 90%.
Bulls are selected for their Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) from some of the best Hereford studs of South Eastern Australia. This has produced a productive and even herd of quiet cattle so appreciated by buyers. |
The herd has been influenced by South Boorook, South Bukalong, Ardno, Yarram Park and YavenVale blood. Today we are drawing on Kanimbla and Injemira bloodlines to produce thrifty Poll Hereford calves with good confirmation and potential for growth. This strategy means that our animals sell well into the Yea market, directly to long standing clients and for live export.
A prized selection of replacement heifers is retained each year and joined at 15 months to white Glenlyon Shorthorn bulls to produce much admired Strawberry Roan calves. Farm management has always included consideration and investment in conservation of the natural environment leading to a policy of sustainability of production. Read more > |
